Introduction
Karnafuli is the third in my novel writing genre. This novel is especially memorable in my life because, on May 4, 1961, the Ayub administration surrounded my house at dawn and took me away and kept me as a security prison in Dhaka Central Jail. I was then a permanent professor of Bengali at Jagannath College. I used to go to the CHT from time to time to collect novel writing materials, But in the Grounds of Detention it is written as a reason: ‘He goes to the hills to spread political discontent among the tribes’!
